2009 Manx Classic Cancelled

The Manx Motor Racing Club has announced they have cancelled the Manx Classic hill climb event.

Due to take place on from the 16-18 April on the Isle of Man, the event had to be cancelled due to a number of factors, including additional requirements to run the event and to provide enough notice about travel arrangements. The MMRC decided to cancel this years in order to fully focus on making it happen in 2010.

Lets hope everything goes well for them this year and they can come back, with a great event in 2010.

Renault Championships Further TV Coverage

ITV Sport has announched its plans to provide Formula Renault UK and the Clio Cup with extended television coverage. This includes live broadcasts for both championships on ITV4, as support races to the British Touring Car Championship. As well as the live broadcast, ITV1 has extended their hightlights show Motorsport UK from 30 minutes to 60 mintues. With a 35-week schedule starting Thrusday, 30th April, thats a lot of motorsport for you to watch, rather than resorting to watching the Top Gear repeats on Dave for the 10th time.

Glock Tries Out Two Wheels

F1 driver Timo Glock has given two wheels a try in the build up for the first Formula 1 race of the season at Melbourne. Although not the two wheels you would expect when that expression is used, The Panasonic Toyota Racing driver, drove a Toyota Hilux up onto two wheels.

Glock spent the day at Calder Park Raceway, learning the skills of stunt driving. After been shown what he needs to do, the 27 year-old German mastered the difficult trick on his third attempt. Repeating the stunt several times he took the Hilux on two wheels to a staggering 60 metres.

Glock has found himself and Toyota at the top end of the pre-season time sheets, showing they could really be a threat at Albert Park. Hopefully he won’t be showing of his new two wheel tricks this weekend, though.

Silverstone Classic Tickets on Sale

From 20th March tickets for the Silverstone Classic on 24th to 26th July went on sale. Featuring 20 historic races through out the weekend, along with 75 car clubs and 4,000 cars on display. The races include a trophy celebrating 50 years of Mini’s, pre 1963 GT and sports cars, group C Le Mans Cars and Grand Prix Masters. Off the track there are flying displays, funfair, stuntbike show and a stage for music concerts on Friday and Saturday. Carlos Santana has been confirmed to headline Saturday 25th July.

Tickets range from £25 race only day pass, £40 concert only tickets to £79 full weekend race pass. A little bit confusing but for more information visit www.silverstoneclassic.com.

Extreme Trackday Car

Caparo has revealed that its T1 can now come in a Race Extreme version. Specifically aimed at the high end trackday market the Caparo T1 Race Extreme is an enhanced spec of the normal T1. The all aluminium normally aspirated, fuel injected Caparo V8 engine has been upgraded to deliver 620bhp at 10,500rpm.

The Race Extreme spec includes fully adjustable suspension and aerodynamic packs, ultra light six-pot front and four-pot rear monoblock billet machined aluminium calipers complete with a titanium pistons, 355mm x 35mm ceramic discs and pads set up and a fully tunable ECU.

The car boasts some impressive numbers, 0-62mph in 2.8secs, 0-100mph in 5.8secs, top speed 208mph, 4g on braking and 3.5g from cornering and a dry weight of 550kgs. The only number they seemed to have forgotten to tell us is the price. Given that the normal spec is sold for around £180,000. I’m going to go out on a limb and say ‘it will be more than that’.

Hello and welcome to the official blog of Track & Race Cars Magazine. Here you will find all the latest news and views from the UK’s best club motor sport championships as well as updates on what’s coming up in the latest edition of the magazine… plus plenty more like the progress of our many race cars which are slowly being prepared for the 2009 race season.

As well as myself – Keith Wood – the rest of the Team TRC have access to this blog so I do apologise in advance for the dribble that will follow from all the guys that make the printed magazine so enjoyable. So who am I jibbering on about? Ok, the track test pilot – John Hayman – will undoubtedly pollute these pages within minutes of him receiving his WordPress password. That is unless, of course, Andrew Brown gets in before him and ramble on ethusiastically about rusting Alfa Romeos. But I’m hoping this blog will be filled with plenty of useful updates from our Editorial Assistant – Michael Wood – and even our star driver – Roberto Giordanelli. Last, and by no means the least, we may get a few choice words from our Advertising Manager – Tom Saunders – from time-to-time, too.
